Endurox tablets

So not only does So Cal have some of the worst traffic to cycle through and we also have some of the hottest driest weather in the region. Well we can’t do much about the traffic but the weather we are able to cope with thanks to nutritional supplements and training our body’s natural ability to adapt. Personally I am not a huge fan of supplements of any kind. I think that eating right and finding the proper fuel for your body you will experience the greatest gains. That doesn’t mean I am not open to trying new things. A friend of mine sent me some samples of Endurox Excel Electrolyte replenisher. What does that long fancy name mean you may ask……Salts. Anyone who has ever broke a sweat in their life knows sweat is full of salts that come pouring out when our body needs to be cooled down. Enough about the boring science….here is the test results

90 degree Saturday, yep. Fast weekend club ride, no doubt. Mix of grinding hills and fast open road sprints, for sure. I have ridden this route, with this group, in this sort of heat several times. I decided this was a good opportunity to put the Endurox to the test. I started taking the supplements early Friday, 4 in total on Friday. Saturday morning prior to the ride I popped a couple more. I did notice during the ride that I seemed to be less thirsty and wasn’t reaching down for my bottles as quick at the top of the climbs. Now the effects weren’t 100% material, but I will say that post ride, exhausted and depleted overall I felt less fatigued. I popped a couple more after the ride just to help rebuild my electrolyte stores a bit quicker. So bottom line this product isn’t going to make you spin like Lance, or climb like Contador but for an athlete looking to ward of dehydration during a race or intense workout this is something you should try.

As of right now my plan is to complete the Redlands Bulldog Triathlon by myself.  Now I barely have the fitness to even train for this kind of thing without supplements.

First on my list of priorities is hydration.  I previously used Cytomax in my races and past training sessions but didn’t care for the cotton mouth it gave me.  I am now devoted to Accelerade.  The taste of the orange is delicious like orange soda but has less of a sugary taste and you notice slightly more salts.  I have also tried the lemon lime with initially thinking it tasted similar to Alka-Seltzer, but using it a second time I came to like.  It didn’t leave clumpy residue in my bottles or mold up after letting the bottles sit for a day.  With Accelerade I kind of kill two birds with one stone, as there are not only electrolytes for rehydration, there are carbs and a small amount of protein for prolonged exercise.

Training through the hills of Hacienda Heights, Whittier, La Habra Heights, Rowland Heights and Diamond Bar I notice the extra energy I have to climb the next hill.  Without a supplement like this, my recovery time between each successive hill has had to be much longer.  My buddy and I did some TT type riding down Brea Canyon Rd.  We usually take turns leading and drafting but to practice I lead for about 3 of the 4 miles, not bad averaging 26mph.   I’m starting a small amount of swim and run training as well, and will undoubtedly keep using this hydrating power juice.  Let’s hope school doesn’t screw with my training or my availability to race.
