Woessner Pistons Help Robbie Goolsby haul at the WORCS

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Misquite, NV hosts the last round of the WORCS series. I was looking forward to this race because the last two races held here I have crashed out hard. This track is very sandy and rough and will bite you if you’re not ready for it. I’ve always liked sand and have been practicing in it for the past few weeks to get ready for this race. I got to the track on Friday morning to see what the moto track was like and did two practices to learn all the jumps. After practice I walked the off-road and was really happy with the layout of the track. It was a litter shorter than last years track but still long. Saturday morning raced the unclassified race and was super pumped with everything. 450A race didn’t start very well I got caught sleeping on the start and was last. I forced my way through the motocross track and by the end of the first lap I was 6th. I felt really good and started pushing more every lap. People were falling everywhere in the sand and I was able to stay up for once. I moved into 2nd with 2 laps left and I kept a strong pace thinking maybe that I can catch first, but didn’t push it too much to crash. I came through a dusty section of the track and notice that 1st was on the ground. I wanted to spirit the last two laps so no one can pass me and take the win away from me and I did just that. I won by about 15 seconds. I was super happy to get my first win of the season, but the only down fall it was at the end of the season. Either way it was a win. I raced again in the Open A race and like the 450 Race I got a last place start again. I made a lot of passes on the moto and off-road to get into second behind my brother (Brad). I was feeling really good so I wanted to pass my brother and pull away. I did that but then I started to tighten up so I slowed up and he got back around me. I dropped back about 30 seconds and with two laps left I pushed it again and closed up and almost passed him but ran out of time. I felt really good with my performance on Saturday’s races. Sunday I didn’t know exactly how I was going to hold up for 2 hours after racing two races the day before and pushed in both of them. I warmed up on my road-bike for about 20 minutes before the race to loosen up and so I could push from the start of the race. I got a great started and was 3rd heading out to the off-road. My first lap wasn’t the greatest and fell back to 4th. I tried to stay smooth and fast to stay with the lead group. I was 6th when I pitted the first time and I was feeling really good. I knew that I was going to push the last hour of the race with all the hard work I’ve been putting into training. Ian Bythe was 5th and riding a great race until his bike broke on him after the half waypoint. Justin Seeds was running 4th and I pushed to catch him. He let me by with about 30 minutes to go and next was Ryan Abbatoye in 3rd. I caught and passed him but he got back by me in the pits when I did a stop and go for gas. I was able to pass him again on the same lap before coming into the motocross track. I was feeling amazing and kept pushing on the last lap I caught Corey Floyd but wasn’t able to get passed him. I finished 3rd and I was in shocked because it was my first Pro2 podium ever. It was a great way to end the 2009 Worcs series and hopefully can transfer into the 2010 season. I would like to thank my family for all their support, My Trainer Randy Lesovsky, John Burr Cycles, Maxxis, AP Brakes, Wossner Pistons, GPR, FMF, Precision Concepts, Answer,

The final race of the WORCS series was held this last weekend in Mesquite, Nv, and it turned out to be an eventful one indeed. The track was super sandy and with no rain it was quite dry too. The WORCS crew did a great job of watering as much as they could but a good start would still be critical with portions of the track being really dusty.

I really wanted to do well at this race because it was the last one of the season and I really felt like I could do well at this track. Once the gate dropped on Sunday afternoon I was ready to show everyone what I could do. I was second in the holeshot just behind Chris Johnson and was right on him going into the off-road. Not too far into the off-road Chris made a mistake and fell over I was able to get by him and he got back up behind me. From there I set a fast pace that I could hold for two hours.

When I came back onto the moto track I had a five second lead and I gradually stretched it out over the course of the race. I led every lap of the race and finished with a 55 second lead over Bobby Garrison in second. This was my first win in the Pro class and when I crossed that finish line I was ecstatic!

Overall I am very pleased with my first year as a Pro. I got three podiums and I ended up 4th in the series, which is the number I will run next year. I plan to carry this momentum into the first round at Speedworld in January.

I would like to thank all of my sponsors for helping me out, and I would like to give a big shout out to Bob Bell who created and managed the Northland Motorsports and Precision Concepts team all year.

See you at the races,
Taylor Robert

Brave soldier Product review by Niks customer

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I have always used different types of chapstick when on the mountain or road bike. The lips usually take a lot of damage from the sun, wind, and dehydration (which should never happen). The Brave Solider lip balm product has worked very well for these activities. The balm is easy to apply and is thick enough to last a very long before needing another application. I also enjoyed that the balm has very little to no taste. Fruity tastes can sometimes be irritable when trying to crank out a big effort.

I have been using the Brave Solider Solar Shield product for about three weeks and it has worked very well. The two toughest items to deal with when using sunscreens on mountain or road bikes are 1)clogging of pores due to sunscreen 2)Sunscreens with irritating smells. Solar Shield allowed my skin to sweat normally and did not have an overpowering smell. These overpowering smells have kept me from using sunblocks during these activities. I will continue to use this product and highly recommend it to others.

Thanks, Adam

Coming into this weekend, I knew I was prepared enough for a hot and tough weekend at Glen Helen Raceway. The track is known as a rough track that can throw you down to the ground in a heartbeat. This was my home track race since for me I only live 10 minutes away. I spent a lot of time testing at the track months before the race so I could have the best possible set up for this race. Unclassified I felt really good and super comfortable with the track. The track was almost the same as a local SRA GP race, so I was super happy. The 450A race started ok with an ok start then started going good by moving up throughout the field. Then everything went down hill about the mid way point of the race. I was behind my brother and we started pushing up our pace and it bit both of us. Dropping into a fast sand wash my brother was making a pass as the same time he was high siding off the bike. He crashed really hard and I saw the whole thing. I got on my brakes so hard my front end washed out from under me and I ended up felling two big pops in my shoulder. I though that I had broke my shoulder or just separated it. I was in pain all day after the crash but it didn’t matter because I wanted to race the Open A and get into the Pro 2 race on Sunday also I was running 4th in Open A points so I want to better that position at the end of the year results.
By the time Open race came I was still in pain but I need to race. I got a dead last start but by the time we left the moto track I was running 5th and by the end of the lap I was 4th. I was right behind my brother again and I had thoughts going through my mind like “O gosh not again”. I got around him and was feeling ok but I wanted to get away in the early laps so if my shoulder couldn’t hold up I could back it down and still get a really good finish. That’s exactly what I did and ended up 5th, which I was really happy about.
Sunday I was really sore still and really couldn’t move my arm. I was going into the race just to have fun and finish. My started was mid pack around 10th. First time coming into the endurocross section there were people everywhere and I found a line and got through it clean and but the end of the second lap I was running 4th. All good things have to come to and end and it happen to me again. While going into a turn my front end tucked on me and I felt another pop in the bad shoulder and that was the end of my race. I was so pissed that all the work I did to get really for the race I got one good race. I went to the doctors right after the race and had x-rays done and they came back negative. I going to still take it easy for a few weeks until I have not more pain but ill be ready for the last round.

Endurox tablets

Endurox tablets

So not only does So Cal have some of the worst traffic to cycle through and we also have some of the hottest driest weather in the region. Well we can’t do much about the traffic but the weather we are able to cope with thanks to nutritional supplements and training our body’s natural ability to adapt. Personally I am not a huge fan of supplements of any kind. I think that eating right and finding the proper fuel for your body you will experience the greatest gains. That doesn’t mean I am not open to trying new things. A friend of mine sent me some samples of Endurox Excel Electrolyte replenisher. What does that long fancy name mean you may ask……Salts. Anyone who has ever broke a sweat in their life knows sweat is full of salts that come pouring out when our body needs to be cooled down. Enough about the boring science….here is the test results
Endurox Pic2

90 degree Saturday, yep. Fast weekend club ride, no doubt. Mix of grinding hills and fast open road sprints, for sure. I have ridden this route, with this group, in this sort of heat several times. I decided this was a good opportunity to put the Endurox to the test. I started taking the supplements early Friday, 4 in total on Friday. Saturday morning prior to the ride I popped a couple more. I did notice during the ride that I seemed to be less thirsty and wasn’t reaching down for my bottles as quick at the top of the climbs. Now the effects weren’t 100% material, but I will say that post ride, exhausted and depleted overall I felt less fatigued. I popped a couple more after the ride just to help rebuild my electrolyte stores a bit quicker. So bottom line this product isn’t going to make you spin like Lance, or climb like Contador but for an athlete looking to ward of dehydration during a race or intense workout this is something you should try.

Things were looking good coming into this race. Taylor was on the mend from his finger injury and Robby and Jamie were healthy and ready to go. September is usually hot in Southern California, and this day was no exception. A big turn out made the course one of the roughest of the year. 36 Pros signed up to do battle.

Off the start, Jamie had a good jump and ran top 3. Taylor was next in 8th with Robby around 15th. About a half lap in, A bottle neck formed. The top 3 riders made it through clean, then it was all stop. Taylor and Robby were not so lucky as they were stopped so long, that most of the riders turned their motors off to wait. Then the Pro 2’s came and they along with a few Pros cut off this section. All was not well.

When the leaders came through at the end of the first lap, there was a huge gap from the top few back, and several Pro 2 riders that by passed the bottle neck were way up. Jamie was looking good in third only a few seconds off the lead. Then coming into the Worcs X section, the two riders in front of him got hung up on the tires. Jamie tried to squeeze past, but couldn’t and went down. It took him almost 2 minutes to get off the tires, and get turned around and make another run and get over them.

Meanwhile Robby and Taylor were back moving, and having to pass alot of Pro 2’s. They were just outside the top 10. There were so many riders in the Worcs X section crashed and stuck, they both struggled to get through. Taylor made the cleanest atempt and jumped up to 8th. Robby took a little longer and was in 11th.

As the race progressed, Taylor was on the move. Charging toward the top 5, he was suddenly slowed by a rear flat. Apparently tire balls can go flat. A quick change and he was off. Jamie was struggling trying to get back his early race form after expending so much energy in the Worcs X crash. Robby was up to 10th, and looking strong, closing in on the riders in front.

Taylors wheel change only lasted one lap and it was flat number 2. Another quick wheel change, and he was off again. Robby was charging and moved into 8th. His pace was pushing him toward the top 5. Jamie took another bad crash, and came into the pits for repairs.

In the last 30 minutes, the heat and rough track began to take it’s toll. Several riders dropped out or slowed considerably. Taylor was back on pace, and once again was charging in 7th spot. Robby was begining to feel the effects of a bad infection earlier in the week, and began to slow.

At the finish, Taylor pushed his way into 6th. Robby struggled, but kept moving to take 11th. Jamie came through in 13th. Many riders retired from injuries, crashes or fatiuge, including Bobby Bonds, Ricky Deitrich, and Jimmy Albertson. It was a tough one.

The next Worcs race is the round 10 finale. It is in Mesquite, NV. on October 25th. We hope to finish out the year strong and we could get all of our riders in the top 10 in points. Everyone was pretty disappointed at Glen Helen, from flats, to the bottle neck, etc.

On another note, Jamie will be in Columbus, OH. this weekend at the Enduro Cross. Then next week he’s off to Portugal for the ISDE. We all wish him the best of luck, have a safe trip, and bring home the Gold.

We will be at local events, the Ridgecrest Big 6 GP, and are putting together plans for the 24 hours of Glen Helen.

Thanks again for all the support. This being our first year with a new team, we have learned alot, and know with your support, we will have greater sucess in the future.

Killian Woder #313

Round 9 of the WORCS Series was held at the world famous Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino California. We were expecting it to be one of the toughest races due to the dry conditions and the fact that Southern California is the home of some of the fastest riders in the country. The weekend didn’t start out very good for Killian; he woke up Saturday morning with an upset stomach and couldn’t hold down any breakfast. He made it to the line for the 250f B and was able to get a pretty good start but his stomach just wouldn’t cooperate. He still managed a top 5 finish but was really worn out. After the race he threw up a few more times and then slept for a couple hours. He woke up feeling much better and was able to eat and drink a little. The Open B race found Killian back to his old self, he pulled a good start and rode a solid race with a 2nd place finish. Sunday tested Killian’s mechanics and support team. A radiator failure after the second lap forced a pit stop with Killian in 3rd. We want to thank Chris Goolsby and one of our team mate’s dads, Mark Lissor, for their expert help. We were able to fix the radiator issue and get Killian back out with enough time for him to go to work. After a hard ride and a lot of catch up he was able to move up into 8th. By finishing in the top 10, we think Killian has secured the Championship in the 15-29 Sport B class. We also want to thank Mark from AP Brakes for his awesome barbeque skills. Not only was AP Brakes the featured Round 9 Sponsor, but they held a Saturday night barbeque dinner for all their supported riders.

Killian had a good weekend for the most part. He pulled a 5th place finish in the 250f despite not feeling well. He said he had to pull over 2 times early in the race to take care of stomach issues! In the Open B race Killian felt much better and with everything working, he was able to finish a solid 2nd. The 15-29 B Sport Race was a different story, a failure in his left side radiator forced a lengthy pit stop. A repair and refill of the radiator got Killian back out with 40 minutes left in the race. He really put his head down and rode with the mindset of not giving up and trying to making up as many positions as he could. He was able to finish 8th overall.
Monthly Happenings

We were able to attend two motocross track grand openings. The Mesquite MX Track, where WORCS Round 10 will be held, reopened and featured a whole new layout. The track now features a lot of sand which they trucked in. The layout has some very tight and challenging sections including the big hill. The New Boulder City MX track also held a grand opening to showcase their new lighting system. This will allow night races and practices here locally, which really helps in the hot summer months. The opening was done like a typical Las Vegas event with radio stations and everyone who is anyone in Vegas showing up. With the permission of Maxxis Tire, Killian has also continued working on testing mini bike tires for CST Tires. He has also been working with Keith of Pit Bike Supply to set up some new bikes for the up coming Mini Moto in May.
Next month will be the final round of the WORCS Series, and will be held at the Mesquite Mx Track. The Banquet is right after the race and, along with a Championship we hope to be collecting podium trophies in 2 other classes. Killian might be riding the 24 hour Glen Helen Race with a team being assembled by the folks at Northland Motorsport, but that’s for next months race report!

As always Killian and the entire Woder Family would like to thank all his sponsors. Without all of you… It wouldn’t be possible!

Accelerade4to1Logo

accelerade-lemonlime-30

As of right now my plan is to complete the Redlands Bulldog Triathlon by myself.  Now I barely have the fitness to even train for this kind of thing without supplements.

First on my list of priorities is hydration.  I previously used Cytomax in my races and past training sessions but didn’t care for the cotton mouth it gave me.  I am now devoted to Accelerade.  The taste of the orange is delicious like orange soda but has less of a sugary taste and you notice slightly more salts.  I have also tried the lemon lime with initially thinking it tasted similar to Alka-Seltzer, but using it a second time I came to like.  It didn’t leave clumpy residue in my bottles or mold up after letting the bottles sit for a day.  With Accelerade I kind of kill two birds with one stone, as there are not only electrolytes for rehydration, there are carbs and a small amount of protein for prolonged exercise.

Training through the hills of Hacienda Heights, Whittier, La Habra Heights, Rowland Heights and Diamond Bar I notice the extra energy I have to climb the next hill.  Without a supplement like this, my recovery time between each successive hill has had to be much longer.  My buddy and I did some TT type riding down Brea Canyon Rd.  We usually take turns leading and drafting but to practice I lead for about 3 of the 4 miles, not bad averaging 26mph.   I’m starting a small amount of swim and run training as well, and will undoubtedly keep using this hydrating power juice.  Let’s hope school doesn’t screw with my training or my availability to race.

Muc-Off Degreaser Spray

muc-off degreaser

muc-off degreaser

I recently had an ankle injury that kept me from riding, and if I’m not riding, I’m lazy. So naturally after riding my last ride before getting hurt I waited until I was healed ready to ride before I cleaned my Stumpjumper. Of course my chain was gunked up and would create an unnecessary amount of resistance.
With the Muc-Off De-Greaser all I did was flip my bike upside down, hold a rag on the underside of my chain (out of concern for my relatively new bike’s paintjob), spray the De-Greaser through the chain onto the rag, wipe the chain up and down and all the grime was gone. As you spray the product you literally see the dirt and grease being blasted off. And within the amount of time it took me to put away the De-Greaser and grab a bottle of lube, the chain was dry, ready for copious lubrication.
The next day, it felt good to be back on the bike, just to stretch out on the Fullerton Loop, nothing serious. But I noticed a smooth feel of the chain without all of the junk build up normally not fully removed in a typical wash. And of course, what would be testing out an aerosol product without seeing how big of a flame I could produce? Here’s a pic at night.
