Eco Motorcycles: Computer-controlled 2015 Honda CB 750 runs on hydrogen

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Eco Factor: Zero-emission concept motorcycle powered by hydrogen.

Adding style and function to the famous 1970s-80s Honda CB Series, designer Igor Chak has designed the 2015 Honda CB 750, which is a green beast controlled by the most sophisticated technology. The bike has been designed to run on a four-cylinder liquid hydrogen engine emitting nothing more than a few drops of clean water.

Mostly all the systems running inside its powerhouse are controlled by computers, which is further controlled through a 5” OLED multi-touch display positioned right on the fuel tank. The computer has three menu options – GPS, Drive Modes and Diagnostics Mode. So if any day you feel your bike isn’t performing well, don’t take it a garage but connect it to your home computer. To keep the weight of the bike under control, the bike will be made using a combination of carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium.

The engine performance is enhanced with a six-speed dual clutch transmission with electronic lurch and traction control. Going fast on this machine doesn’t mean risking your life, as it comes with ABS, airbag, steering damper and radar technology that could sense an upcoming head-on collision and automatically slow the bike.

Muc-off and Chris Vermeulen

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP began on a positive note during the first day of testing for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi.

Chris Vermeulen led the way for the team with the fourth fastest time of the day, as he recorded a best lap of 1′49.382 from his 17-laps around the 4,801m Motegi circuit. Vermeulen got through a large amount of work with his crew – despite the session only being 45-minutes long – and was able to complete three good runs that supplied him, and the Suzuki Technicians, with valuable data as they prepare for this Sunday’s race.

Loris Capirossi was narrowly behind his team-mate as he clocked a quickest time of 1′49.980 from his 19 laps, to give him sixth place overall. Capirossi was pleased with the day’s work, but is convinced that there is more to come from him and the Suzuki GSV-R. Capirossi and Vermeulen were two of only six riders that clocked sub one-minute-fifty-second laps today as they continued to show a competitive edge during the first practice session.

Today’s single session was held in cold and overcast conditions with air temperatures only reaching 12ºC and track temperatures at a high of only 22ºC. With rain forecast for tomorrow and similar weather as today expected on race-day, the information gathered by the team today will be vital to ensure they get the best set-up on Sunday. Today’s fastest time was set by reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi.

Rizla Suzuki has one more free practice session on Saturday morning, followed by a 45-minute qualifying session in the afternoon to decide grid positions for Sunday’s 24-lap race that gets underway at 15.00hrs local time (06.00hrs GMT).

Chris Vermeulen:
“We’ve had quite a good start to the weekend here at Motegi. It has not been a track I have gone well at in my last three years with Suzuki, but it has been a big improvement today. We have taken a big step forward with the bike in certain areas – especially accelerating off the corners. There are a lot of those on to long straights here and it all seems to be working well for us. Today we used the same set of tyres for the whole session. They worked pretty well, but did drop-off a bit towards the end of the session, but if it is similar conditions on race-day we know what we will be using. The team did a great job today and we got through everything we needed to in the 45-minutes. With it being a shorter session now, we did well to get in three good runs and try out everything we needed to. Hopefully it will be dry tomorrow so we can learn more about the bike and keep improving.”

Loris Capirossi:
“The problem we are finding is that this is the only practice we have on Friday now and we don’t have another one to keep working on the bike. We need more time to get the bike just right. It is working quite well but we still have a bit of work to do on the setting. The conditions didn’t help today because it was very cold and we couldn’t get the tyres up to temperature. We used one set of tyres for the whole session and the left side still looks like new! We will see how things turn out tomorrow, but there is a forecast of rain and then it might be fine for the race, so we will just have to see what happens and try our best!”

Paul Denning – Team Manager:
“We are happy that some of the problems that we suffered in the Qatar race haven’t come up today here in Motegi. That has been reflected in the relatively competitive showings from both riders. The low temperatures and lack of grip was the same for everybody, so we have to be confident in the ability of the riders and the team to get the GSV-R working at its very best in these conditions. It is a solid start to Suzuki’s home Grand Prix, but I think that we can find a fair bit more speed for both guys if it’s dry tomorrow!”

WORCS Race Hollister, Ca. April 19, 2009

Pro riders: Taylor Robert
Robby Bell
Jamie Lanza

The fourth round of the WORCS series stopped in at Hollister Hills SVRA. With temperatures reaching into the low 90’s, it was set to be a hot and dusty day. The WORCS crew did a great job of keeping dust to a minimum by watering in areas previousy unreachable. With 30 Pros on the line and a tight twisty course, the start would be crushal. We were finally at full strength as Jamie Lanza was back from his shoulder surgery and fired up to race after a 5 month layoff.

At the start, Jamie shot out in 3rd place. Taylor gated at the edge of the top 10, with Robby mistiming and running 24th. On the 1st lap, Jamie got a little excited and went down twice falling back to 25th . Taylor was on the move until he hit something with his front brake disc and bent it forcing a pit stop for a new front wheel. Robby was on the move up to 15th .

Lap 2 found Robby stuck in a ditch after trying to avoid other racers. By the time he freed up, he was back to 26th. With all 3 riders having major problems early, things weren’t looking good. But all of them continued to charge. Jamie moved up to the top 10, only to have his clutch cable break. This required a 3 minute pit stop for repairs. Back to 21st place. Taylor was charging hard, putting in great lap times and moved into the top 10 with 30 minutes to go. Robby was also charging and up to 13th.

As the race wound down, Taylor never backed down and passed into 7th. Jamie once again forced his way foward to take 13th. Robby charged to just outside the top 10, but finally fell victim to the effects of a horrible crash 2 weeks earlier, and fell back to 18th.

Pro Finish: Taylor Robert 7th
Jamie Lanza 13th
Robby Bell 18th

While this wasn’t the result we were looking for, I was happy with the way each rider handled adversity. Taylor’s lap times could have put him on the podium if not for the disc problem. Jamie was racing for the first time in 6 months, and passed half the field twice. Robby was not able to prepare nor was he 100% as his crash 2 weeks ago nearly put him in the hospital, but he never gave up.

The next WORCS race is at Honey Lake on May 10th. We will be ready! I know Taylor is healthy and hungry, Jamie will be stronger and Robby will be fired up as he has finished 2nd here before.

Once again, THANK YOU to all of our sponsors, pit help and the racers families. Without you this team would not exsist.

Worcs racing is what we do and like, this past weekend i got a shot of Robby bell of team precision concepts. Robby is a avid AP Racing brake pad user! but its too bad that AP doesn’t make neck guards !
